Violet Marsh Photography is the vision of Tanya Lacourse.
Graceful and fluid, Tanya crouches down or balances upon her
tippy-toes to capture singularity in moments and objects.
She photographs the hushed and the understated; the celebratory;
and the vibrancy of days turning into nights and nights turning
into days.
Raised in suburbia where uniformity is expected, she has spent
her adult life seeking out texture in Boston, New York City,
Barcelona and San Francisco. Exploring language, culture, food
and geography, Tanya is inspired by the constant swelling and
murmur of everything she can fit into one lifetime.
She is also inspired by living in fullness; by color and reflection;
by softness and integrity; by femininity and by the greater
good. She read somewhere that seeing comes before words and
she couldn’t agree more.
A self-trained photographer since junior high school, Tanya
spent five years honing her eye and business skill as a fine
arts administrator with Pucker Gallery, Yossi Milo Gallery,
and The New York City Department of Cultural Affairs.
She utilizes cameras both analogue and digital including a
35mm SLR, the Holga 120, a Polaroid, a Hasselblad, and a DSLR.
If she could have tea with one of her most beloved photographers,
she would surely invite Diane Arbus, Robert Frank, and Alec
Soth and make it a party.
