But visually, it was trapped in a past decade—swimming in a sea of sterile builder-beige paint and heavy, dark finishes that choke the visual flow.

For Collected Comfort, our goal was not to reinvent the architecture, but to reveal its potential. Through a thoughtful cosmetic refresh, strategic furniture layouts, layered textiles, and a carefully curated color palette, we transformed the home into a welcoming retreat that feels both elevated and effortlessly livable.
The High-Impact, Cosmetic Kitchen Refresh

The original kitchen was a textbook example of 90s visual weight, dominated by dark upper and lower cabinetry that absorbed all the light. Because we are playing the long game with a full remodel a few years down the road, we wanted to prove just how transformative a topical refresh can be.
Without moving a single plumbing line or tearing out a wall, we shed the dark, dated weight of the cabinets and brightened the entire perimeter. The original footprint remains exactly the same, but the room was instantly reborn—releasing the visual tension and allowing the kitchen to gracefully connect with the adjoining open-concept living area.

Framing the Architecture with Form and Texture
A towering ceiling and traditional trim are beautiful architectural gifts, but without the right styling scale, large living spaces can quickly feel cold, empty, and uninviting. Rather than altering the traditional fireplace structure, we used furniture form and textile scales to beautifully frame the room's existing architecture:
The Conversational Layout: We pulled the furniture away from the perimeter to create an intimate hub, anchoring the main seating arrangement with a high-contrast geometric patterned rug that adds instant visual movement. At the center sits an organic, round wooden coffee table to perfectly balance the crisp, tailored lines of the plush white sectional.
The Custom Details: Tucked elegantly against the wall are two arched display cabinets in a rich, warm wood tone. It bridges the gap between old and new, offering the perfect opportunity to weave in artisanal ceramics, books, and objects that make a house feel collected.
The Dining Flow: Just off the main living space, a minimalist dining table paired with classic parisian-style chairs sit under a striking brass chandelier.
The Primary Bedroom: An Intimate, Moody Sanctuary
While the main living spaces focus on celebrating natural light and open connection, we wanted the primary bedroom to feel like a complete departure—a deep, comforting sanctuary to escape to at the end of a long day.

Instead of fighting the scale of the room, we leaned entirely into a rich, deep olive and charcoal color story on the walls.
The Tension of Textures: We paired those deep, velvety wall tones with a clean, structured wood-frame bed and crisp, earthy linens. A detailed vintage-inspired rug grounds the palette and ties the original hardwood floors into the design flawlessly.
The Lighting Stories: We swapped out the harsh, flat builder fixtures for an incredibly charming, pleated scalloped pendant light that hangs gently beside the bed, casting a targeted, nostalgic glow that rewrites the room’s mood.
Playful Moments in Hidden Corners
To contrast the moody drama of the bedroom, we introduced a playful, sophisticated botanical wallpaper in a warm terracotta and slate blue tone for an adjoining transitional nook. Paired with a tailored wall sconce and custom built-in shelving, it turns a simple wall into a deliberate design moment that honors the home's original lines while adding undeniable personality.
